So last time I promised to tell you about my custom made experience point system. Here it is in a nutshell.
Students collect points from positive feedback, homework, teamwork, projects and different kinds of assignments. For example from every positive feedback from teachers that teach my students they get 100 xp points. They level up when they reach 1000 xp points. They can use the points to buy different things. For example 1000 xp points can buy you a new place to sit in the classroom or a recess indoors. If students buy stuff they will lose a certain amount of points which is the cost of the purchase.
When students level up the purchases will grant them more “freedom” in the classroom. Basically the whole classroom and the functions of it have been gamified.
Below is an example of the teacher’s view of the points. I had to crop away my student’s names. Headlines are the things they will get points from. Last is the total amount of points the student has.
Below is an example of the level four purchases. This is all visible to students. Different levels and purchases are on the classroom door.
- Level 4: 3000 XP
- Doing homework during class
- 10 minutes of free time doing what you like
- Change of subjects
- Bringing a toy to school and playing between classes. For one day.
- Indoors between classes for a group (3-5 pupils)
- Your choice of place inside class for one day
- Name the class for one day
- Sit next to the teacher’s desk
Until next time! GAME ON! LEVEL UP AND BE RIDICULOUS!
